See the difference.
The labs and the hyperscalers make excellent models and excellent clouds — and they structurally cannot offer what follows. A lab can't be model-neutral: OpenAI will never route you to Claude, and Anthropic will never route you to Gemini. A cloud can't be cloud-neutral: Copilot ends where Azure ends. And none of them will hand you the source, or the exit.
Bike4Mind is the neutral runtime: every frontier model as a commodity, open-weight models on your own iron, source-available code, and a door out written into our own usage policy. Terms you could walk away from are the only terms worth trusting.
One workbench, one API call. The frontier labs are interchangeable peers — the self-hosted lane is the one thing no lab or cloud can ever take away.

“But I could just self-host something free.”
You could — and where the openness is real, we mean the respect. Open WebUI, LibreChat, and LangChain are genuinely open (MIT), genuinely useful, real communities; on the commodity axes — self-hostable, model-neutral, RAG — we concede to them outright. (Dify wears the same “open source” badge on a very different license — hold that thought for the license test below.)
Against the genuinely open tools the difference isn't openness — it's that they're a componentand we're the whole workbench with a company behind it. A chat UI, an app builder, or a library is something you assemble and operate yourself. Bike4Mind is the integrated runtime plusthe enterprise spine a community project can't offer — shipping at open-source speed all the same.

And velocity? From the open-core cut forward it proves itself in the open: every commit lands in bike4mind/bike4mind, so you can set its GitHub Insights beside any open self-host repo's over the same window and watch us out-ship them — live, from day one. The changelog is public right now. The build up to the cut lived in a private development monorepo, where a comparable-sized team already shipped 5–6× the commits and merged PRs of the largest open self-host project in a matched 30-day window — real, just measured where you couldn't see it yet. Now you can. The moat isn't a longer feature list — it's that velocity with a company, an enterprise contract, and revenue products dogfooding the platform.

Read the license, not the logo.
“Open source” is a claim, not a guarantee — we all learned what “Open” meant in OpenAI. A name isn't a license. So read the license. Open WebUI and LangChain are permanently open (MIT). Ours is source-available today and, by irrevocable covenant, becomes Apache-2.0 in two years — it can only ever get more open.
Dify wears the open-source halo while its license bars you from running a multi-tenant service without its written permission, forbids removing its logo from your own product, and — in its own words — reserves the right to “adjust the agreement to be more strict as deemed necessary.” Open that can be closed at will isn't open. It's a trial with good marketing.
